Summer Reading Club is a free program that encourages children to continue reading over the summer break by offering fun and educational enrichment activities. Generously sponsored by the United Way of Whiteside County, SRC is open to children entering preschool through 8th grade. Registration is REQUIRED.

2023’s Summer Reading Club theme is “CAMP ODELL.” This year, we’ll take readers beyond the beaten path and into the woods! We’ll learn about our local animals, create art, make friendship bracelets, build fires, enjoy camp stories, and more! Like last year, materials for an art project, science experiment, etc. will be available for pickup at the beginning of each week. In addition, we have a Story Walk, BINGO board, and a few other surprises planned to keep your readers active!  The first day for pickup will be Monday, June 12th with new to-go activities over 5 weeks through the week of July 10th. Readers have the chance to win some fabulous prizes and each child will take home free books at the end of the summer! A full schedule will be announced in June!

Help your child’s mind stay sharp this summer and sign up today!

In an effort to reduce paper waste, we are going completely digital with our registration this year. If you need assistance, call us at 815-772-7323 or email

  • Registration deadline is Saturday, June 3rd so that we have enough time to order and prepare materials.
