Children’s Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club is a free program that encourages children to continue reading over the summer break by offering fun and educational enrichment activities. Generously sponsored by the United Way of Whiteside County, SRC is open to children entering preschool through 8^th grade. Registration is REQUIRED. 

2026’s Summer Reading Club theme is “Plant a Seed, Read!” Just as fruits and vegetables nourish our bodies, reading nourishes our minds! This summer, we’ll explore how things grow with lots of hands-on activities and special gatherings.

As in years past, materials for an art project, science experiment, etc. will be available for pickup at the beginning of each week. In addition, we have a Story Walk, BINGO board, game nights, and a few other surprises planned to keep your readers active!  The first day for pickup will be Monday, June 8th with new to-go activities over the next 5 weeks. Readers have the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes and each child is guaranteed to take home free books at the end of the summer! A full schedule will be announced in June!

Please note that dates and features may change. You may pick up materials ANY DAY during the week. Bookmarks should be returned each week to earn a small prize and prize ticket. A final schedule will be shared with registered families at the beginning of June!
